Rapper and actor Common pushed through a bevy of negative press to perform at the White House poetry event.
Read below for a short list of the overly-criticized invite of Common to the White House. According to ABC,
"The judgment is just so lacking of class and decency and all that's good about America with an invite like this," Sarah Palin said. "They're just inviting someone like me or someone else to ask, 'C'mon Barack Obama who are you palling around with now?'"
Karl Rove, the former deputy chief of staff to George W. Bush, said
"Yes, let's invite a misogynist to the White House, a guy who's called for violence against police officers, and called for killing the former president of the United States George W. Bush," Rove said.
"This guy is a thug," Rove added. "And why they are inviting him to poetry night at the White House speaks volumes about President Obama and this White House staff. Who is asleep at the vetting desk?"
Huffington Post did some digging and added how Fox felt about rapper Common last October - roughly 7 months ago,
Reporter Jason Robinson interviewed the "rap legend" and told him, "your music is very positive. And you're known as the conscious rapper. How important is that to you, and how important do you think that is to our kids?"
Common replied that it's a "significant role. I just try to show who we are as well-rounded people and I'm happy to be known as the conscious artist."
In the end Common's performance went off without a hitch telling the crowd at the end, "Thank you and God bless."
