Teen Choice Awards 2012: 'The Avengers' Faces Off 'The Hunger Games' in Movie Nominations

'Avengers' and 'Hunger Games' will compete
against 'The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn I', 'Wrath of the Titans' and
'Mirror Mirror' in the coveted Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie category.
The 2012 Teen Choice Awards has revealed its first wave of nominations in movie. Vying for the Choice Movie: Sci-Fi/Fantasy award are a number of mega-blockbuster titles, such as "The Avengers" and "The Hunger Games". The two will also have to compete against the likes of "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part I", "Wrath of the Titans" and "Mirror Mirror".
"Avengers" brings its leading actors, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth, to compete in the Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy category. They will face off such strong contenders as the "Twilight Saga" hunks Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner as well as "Hunger Games" actor Josh Hutcherson.
As for the Choice Movie Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy category, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lawrence must face against each other thanks to their iconic roles as Black Widow in "Avengers" and Katniss Everdeen in "Hunger Games" respectively. Joining them in the category are such actresses as Kristen Stewart, Lily Collins and Vanessa Hudgens.
In the Action Movie category, Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol" is set to battle Downey Jr.'s "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows". Also nominated for best action movie are "Red Tails", "Abduction" and "Act of Valor". Cruise and Downey Jr. are additionally up for the best action actor nod along with Lautner, Tom Hardy and Logan Lerman .
In Drama, meanwhile, such well-reviewed movies as "Drive", "The Help", "The Lucky One", "The Vow" and "We Bought a Zoo" are all up for best drama title award. Lining up to compete in best actress in drama are the likes of Johansson, Sandra Bullock, Viola Davis, Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams. Finally, in the Comedy category, "21 Jump Street", "Crazy, Stupid, Love.", "The Muppets" and "What to Expect When You're Expecting" are vying for the best comedy film gong.
Aside from movie, Teen Choice Awards announces the nominees for music, television as well as fashion and other fields. Winners of the annual award will be revealed during a star-studded two-hour ceremony that will be broadcast live on Sunday, July 22 on FOX. Host(s), performers and presenters of the ceremony are set to be announced shortly. Last year, Kaley Cuoco hosted the event.
Beginning Friday, May 18, fans between the ages of 13-19 can vote once each day per category on the official Teen Choice Awards website.
