Jordin Sparks, John Legend Pay Tribute to Whitney Houston at Billboard Music Awards
Posted in John Legend, Jordin Sparks, Whitney HoustonBefore John Legend's performance of Houston's "Greatest Love of All," Whoopi Goldberg shared a few words on the singer saying, "Even for those of you who didn't show your love for Whitney, now's your chance to pay tribute. We're gonna be giving Whitney the greatest love of all..."
Following John Legend, Jordin Sparks -- who plays Houston's daughter in the upcoming remake of the film "Sparkle" (August 2012) -- brought the audience to their feet with a powerful performance of Houston's iconic, "I Will Always Love You."
From the beginning of Houston's tribute, her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, looked on with tears in her eyes and reciting back her mother's hits.
Quickly after the tribute, Houston's sister-in-law, Pat Houston, and Bobbi Kristina --"the one person she cherished more," Pat Houston said -- joined Goldberg, Legend and Sparks and on stage to accept the Billboard Millennium Award in Houston's behalf.
"Thank you for supporting her through the good and the bad... showing that much love because she deserved it," Bobbi Kristina said.
Houston, who died Feb. 11 at age 48, holds the distinction of being the first artist ever to have seven consecutive No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 and her biggest hit, "I Will Always Love You," spent 14 weeks atop the chart in 1993. She earned 16 Billboard Music Awards, six Grammys, 23 American Music Awards and two Emmys, and has sold 170 million combined albums, single and videos worldwide.
